Fulling Mill OE Mayfly Nymph (Barbless)

Up until now Mayfly nymphs have been tied on longshank hooks, as successful as these have been, they lack the mobility of the real thing, The ?Wiggle Nymph? of the 70?s – a US idea ? back then, caught my attention, and has led me on a quest, experimenting with the idea on this long bodied copy of the natural. The term ?wiggle? convinced many a fly tier that the so constructed nymph would behave like a mini pike plug ? it doesn?t. But what it does quite effectively is move its abdomen at the whim of the current. Also, and just as important, when a trout strikes it doesn?t hit a long stiff object, this pattern collapses making it a far better hooker. I have also incorporated several other ?triggers? found on the natural:- the obvious soft dorsal gills, the ?danica? markings and three pairs of legs, soft enough to sit underneath when the artificial is ?worked?.
